Anne-Sophie Brazeau is an Assistant Professor at the School of Human Nutrition of McGill University and the Director of the dietetics education and practice program. Her projects follow the strategies for patients-oriented research. She engages people experiencing the disease as well as clinicians as partners on her projects, therefore ensuring working on priorities important for patients’ outcomes. She is currently co-leading the BETTER program, a CIHR/JDRF co-funded research program targeting hypoglycemia reduction in type 1 diabetes. Her research program explores the patients’ experience with diabetes self-management, including the uptake of new therapies and technologies, diet and physical activity; to inform on effectiveness, benefits and risks of diverse diets, such as restricted CHO diets; and to assess the usefulness and impact of online self-guided education and support on diabetes self-management.

Overview of Behavioural Theory

During this presentation, we will review different behaviour change theories and factors associated with health behaviour change. This will include the behaviour change wheel. In particular, we will discuss the importance of self-efficacy for diabetes self-management. We will review health care provider factors that can influence behaviour change. We will propose tools for self-efficacy management and strategies to increase self-efficacy.
